Thought I would let you know that your link to the "ez" guide no longer works. When you click on this link... If you wish to purchase your own copy of the EZ Guide, please go here. The national66.org sites page says "Error 404 - Not Found"

Just an FYI :-)

Jerry

We finished our R66 run just over a week ago and have since returned to the UK and have been reflecting on the journey. We drove all of the way from Chicago to Santa Monica with no directions other than your guide, neither map nor satnav were needed nor missed. I think I need to revise upwards my estimation of the value of your guide.

We did a few touristy things along the way (Monument Valley - superb; Grand Canyon - vastly overhyped) but for us the road was always the winner. We met some fantastic people along the way. All the people who are keeping the spirit of the road alive in maintaining businesses (diners, museums etc) and all of the drivers/riders were always kind, generous and helpful. It is a trip we shall not forget and without your guide we would have missed so much. When we do this try again, we will know better what to do and what not to do; although the latter is confined only to the miserable 4 hour drive into Santa Monica from San Bernadino. To enter the maelstrom of the city and the aggressiveness of the drivers after so much peacefulness and solitude of the road was an eye-opener.

Hi Jerry =) I got your book in preparation for my big move from Los Angeles to Chicago. I would love to get you to autograph my copy of the book along the way. I should be in your city around 11/8 - plans will be finalized soon. I was wondering if you would be around. Talk to you soon, Jenny

Hi, I'm the Oldham County Chamber of Commerce Director in Vega, Texas. I recently had some visitors from England give me your information. I appreciate all you do for Route 66, and want to keep you informed on all that's happening on our piece of it. (Wildorado, Vega, Adrian.) Thanks for helping us better serve our travelers. Thanks, Nick. About the Oatman Hwy caution...I have to take into consideration ALL types of drivers. To some people this IS a very scary road...no fooling. Some of the turns are indeed tight, and the lack of guard rails in places can be intimidating. I agree with you...it IS a fantastic road, and I always reccommend it (but not to big RVs). Thanks for the kind words(and the feedback on the Tumbleweed in Texola).

A thumbs up for tumbleweed at Texola. We stopped there a few days ago. Really friendly owner.

I think your caution over the Oatman Highway a tad misleading. The road is not very sterp, the turns not tight (unless you are in a very large vehicle). We spoke with a Dutch Harley rider (and tour guide, he was annotating his EZ guide) and he said to not worry. We did not and the road was fantastic!

Indeed your EZ guide is a superb guide.

Hi Jerry - I am driving R66 with my husband and find your guide Edition 3 invaluable - would not be without it. We are currently sheltering from a thunderstorm in Tucumari and just thought you would like to know (sorry if you so already) that the Quayles Art Gallery appears to be empty and up for sale. Warm regards, Carol

Greetings Jerry,
I wanted to thank you for the "guidance" that you provided for my trip to Santa Monica. My daughter and I came by your place early in July, the second day of our trip from Rolla to California. We had a wonderful and memorable trip meeting dozens of terrific folks along the way! I would like to invite you to my facebook page www.facbook.com/kentjewelry where you will find an image of the newest RT 66 mural. We completed it in early July just prior to making our journey. I think you will find the image very interesting and look forward to your impression of it. In any event, my daughter and I are planning a long weekend to complete the Rolla to Chicago let of the Route, probably next spring. Thank you again for your guidance, I look forward to seeing you again someday. You are always welcome to stop by our little section of the road. Sincerely, Kent Bagnall, Route 66, Rolla, Missouri

Hi Jerry. My wife and I just returned home from a fantastic Route 66 voyage of discovery. Being from Victoria BC it made sense for us to do this route "west to east." We left Santa Monica 15 June and headed east, but not before some pics of the Santa Monica pier and of course the requisite "Tee" from the end of trail kiosk. It was our luck that the Orange County regional beach volleyball tournament was going on by the pier. What a zoo. Our trip was absolutely fantastic and a truly unforgettable experience, which is of course a credit to your guide. We never got lost. Our only complaint comes from THE NAVIGATOR(my wife)who feels that the side trip descriptions and side-bars in the guide were "westward" oriented and had to be read from the bottom up when heading eastbound. Nevertheless, a minor point as this was sorted out fairly early on in our journey. Personally, I loved the western sections the best while my wife preferred the east. Of course she does! At times, while driving through the western desert, it felt as if we were the only people on the planet. Ghost towns galore to explore, very interesting small towns to see but at the same time leaving a sad sense of melancholy and nostalgia for simpler times. Even places such as Gallup NM reflected a lost sense of place as many of the establishments on its main drag were boarded up. We reached Chicago around the 16th of July where again, as luck would have it, a huge "Taste of Chicago" festival was going on. What a zoo. We took the I 90 on the way home - Chicago to Seattle - when, as luck would have it, we shared the road with 350,000 bikers on their way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Interesting but very, very noisy. Oh yes, and "Road Alert!!" The worst stretch of road over the entire route has to be without a doubt that section of Route 66 that went through Tulsa Oklahoma. Unbelievably bad. Worse than any stretch of Route 66 that we experienced across the western desert including the Monument Valley trail!! And that was really bad.
