EZ UPDATES

For readers of the EZ 66 Guide for Travelers, I have provided free online updates to help keep your Route 66 experience as current as possible. As you might imagine, Route 66 is constantly undergoing changes, some good, others not so. Businesses open and close, roads are re-routed and street names change.

Please check back here just before your trip for the latest info. Entries are dated as to when they were added.

If you wish to purchase your own copy of the EZ Guide, please go here.

EZ 66 readers have been helpful in keeping me keep the guidebook updated in between my own road trips, so if you discover something that needs to be addressed while on your journey, please let me know!

The 1925 iron bridge with the brick deck on the old Ozark Trail option is currently closed. You can access the option by taking the new access road from the stoplight to the west if the just reopened Teepee Drive In.

ARCADIA OK on Apr 13, 2023 at 4:07:16 pm [Print]
Work is underway to widen a short stretch of 66 between POPS in Arcadia and the beginning of the 4-Lane west of Arcadia.

Also the section east of ARCADIA towards Luther is being widened.

ARIZONA ROAD CONDITIONS on Feb 23, 2023 at 1:34:57 am [Print]
ALSO: entering spring, I-40 thru northern AZ is in bad shape with many potholes! Drive carefully (sadly you must use 40 a lot...but i would NOT use it between Seligman and Kingman...66 is better!))

In this winter season, Check AZ511.com for road conditions before trying to drive thru AZ (Or call 511)

I have shared official notices and others at my FB page....EZ 66 Guide

Yes, the link to buy the EZ from my publisher IS BROKE. I can't easily get it fixed).

BUT...even though you get an error, behind that error message my publishers page is visible...just click on his "STORE" and you will get there.

TYPO ALERT!!! on Jan 27, 2023 at 3:32:40 pm [Print]
On NM page-8, I wrongly gave a distance of 150 miles that was cut off by the bypassing of Santa Fe in 1937.

The new mileage POST 1937 from Santa Rosa NM thru Albuqueque to Correo, NM (where both versions meet) is about 150 miles. I must have entered THIS mileage when i did the text!!!

The PRE 1937 mileage from Santa Rosa thru Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Los Lunas to Correo is about 235 miles.

Thus, the POST 1937 direct route from Santa Rosa to Correo saved about 85 miles. Give or take.

Only looking at the Santa Rosa to Albuquerque section, the savings was 62 miles.

Take these mileages with a grain of salt. They are a modern approximation. I need to dig back thru some old road maps to sample the actual pre-interstate era miles. And there were some route changes between 1926 and 1937 that would cause a few miles difference.

The beauty of the EZ 66 Guide is that you can choose to take an easy, simpler trip by merely following the "boxed" westbound or eastbound directions.

OR, you can add to your adventure by choosing any or all of the OPTIONS and SIDE TRIPS!

The EZ 66 is your interactive guide to developing and enjoying the best Route 66 trip for your time and tastes! Pick what you want. Hop on and off. Do part or all, east or west, drive the dirt or stick to pavement...it is all up to you! The 5th Edition of the EZ 66 Guide will help you experience the REAL, AUTHENTIC ROUTE 66!

Sly Fox in Virden, Illinoia

Gearhead Curios, Galena KS

Buck Atoms Cosmic Curios, Tulsa OK

routetripUSA.co.uk

Henry's Rabbit Ranch, Staunton, IL (will ship)

More to come!(yes, i STILL need to expand this list!!!)
BTW...yes, shipping from my publisher to overseas IS expensive! He used to try shipping the cheaper way...but had too much loss and damage, so now he only ships via the more reliable. costlier method.

Please order/buy from Route 66 businesses (or my publisher) if possible.

ez 5 updates: on Jan 13, 2023 at 11:14:11 pm [Print]
All updates BEFORE this entry apply to previous editions and (most) are included in the new 5th EDITION.

So if you bought the 5th Edtion, go forward in time from here for useful updates.
NOTE: from this point in time all update pages indicated will be for the 5th edition. There are many page number changes in the new edtion, so be prepared to ignore the 5th edition page numbers if you are updating an earlier edition (you can find the proper page by context). I will TRY to include older page numbers where most helpful.

EZ 5 NOW! on Jan 13, 2023 at 11:12:31 pm [Print]
IT'S HERE!
Yep, at long last the long-awaited FIFTH EDITION of the famed EZ 66 GUIDE is in print and ready to order!
You can buy it online directly from the publisher at www.national66.org
As I get reports of which shops on and off 66 (including overseas!) have it in stock I will point them out here and on www.mcjerry66.com so folks can support the small businesses along Route 66.
We are rather proud of this new edition. I traveled ALL of the directions in the EZ Guide, (mostly both ways) last year and then spent many, many months revising.
I added 14 pages to expand the text and maps, plus 8 "blank" pages for autographs and stamps. Most OPTIONS and SIDE TRIPS were reworked to make them even EZer to choose and follow, especially in complex city areas, with new maps as needed.
Of course the EZ 66 is still chock-full of recommendations for classic motels and eateries, museums, attractions, GIANT ALERTS, and other cool stuff to make your trip fun.
This is now the most up-to-date guide out there (I even had to yell 'STOP THE PRESSES" at the last minute so I could make emergency revisions to 5 pages in California to account for a reopened stretch of 66). While Historic Route 66 is constantly changing, my update pages at www.mcjerry66.com will continue to be your source for up-to-date info.
My thanks to all of the shops who have supported the EZ 66 Guide over the last 18 years! We are glad to have been able to support many of these wonderful places along the Mother Road and hope to keep promoting Route 66 for years to come.

BTW: the link to order elsewhere on this site is broken. just go to www.national66.org
