EZ UPDATES
For readers of the EZ 66 Guide for Travelers, I have provided free online updates to help keep your Route 66 experience as current as possible. As you might imagine, Route 66 is constantly undergoing changes, some good, others not so. Businesses open and close, roads are re-routed and street names change.
Please check back here just before your trip for the latest info. Entries are dated as to when they were added.
If you wish to purchase your own copy of the EZ Guide, please go

EZ 66 readers have been helpful in keeping me keep the guidebook updated in between my own road trips, so if you discover something that needs to be addressed while on your journey, please let me know!

You can use these pages to collect stamps from ANY place on 66 that offers them...just for fun.
These pages are not a "passport" deal where you must stop at specific places and get stamps to get a prize.
You won't get anything...except memories of your trip!

recent flooding rains have washed out the almost completed new bridge built to bypass a timber 1931 bridge west of Endee. The 1931 Bridge has been closed out of caution. You will not be able to drive from Glenrio to San Jon on the Dirt 66 Option until this is resolved. So stick to the paved main tour.
Update spring 2024. Still closed

Don't try to drive the DIRT OPTION from Glenrio to San Jon (NM page-3) for nnow. The road is reportedly impassable due to damage from heavy rain. UPDATE:OLD BRIDGE west of Endee is closed, MEW bridge washed out! I would also avoid the Palomas to Montoya OPTION on NM page-5...I bet it is full of water and mud at the "tunnel" under I-40. Other sections of 66 to the west may have standing water/mud in DIPS.

On the advice of local tourism folks, I am going to recommend you use CAUTION if you choose to use the Metro Line trains mentioned on this page. This was a good option, and locals still use them...but perhaps not advisable for the average tourist now. Do some homework first and exercise some street smarts.

The EZ 66 Guide has supported small businesses on the route since 2005! We (my publisher and I) have never charged any business for inclusion, and will continue to give them our support at no charge.
Please continue to patronize the shops and diners and motels listed in the EZ 66 Guide. We are grateful to those shops that sell the EZ 66 on the Route. If you buy your copy at a Route 66 shop, please let me know!

Just to clarify, the Santa Fe sign on the former Railway Exchange Bldg is gone.
The Architecture Foundation formerly in that bldg is NOW the Chicago Architecure Center and moved to 111 W Wacker Dr (same website and phone).

Work is proceeding on the new marijuana dispensary just across the TX state line in formerly quiet Glenrio. I much preferred the ghost town vibe of Glenrio before all the recent demolitions.
FYI: it is legal in NM but not in Texas. The dispensary is on the NM side, but to leave via a paved road you must go back to the exit thru Texas! Beware! Update: spring 2024. No further work has been done on the iconic First/Last Motel in Texas

The Silver Saddle Motel is now "The Mystic" and is now much more expensive, plus has lost the retro feel that I enjoyed on my last visit. It may well be a good motel in its new incarnation, but it is no longer the place I recommended.
