EZ UPDATES

For readers of the EZ 66 Guide for Travelers, I have provided free online updates to help keep your Route 66 experience as current as possible. As you might imagine, Route 66 is constantly undergoing changes, some good, others not so. Businesses open and close, roads are re-routed and street names change.

Please check back here just before your trip for the latest info. Entries are dated as to when they were added.

If you wish to purchase your own copy of the EZ Guide, please go here.

EZ 66 readers have been helpful in keeping me keep the guidebook updated in between my own road trips, so if you discover something that needs to be addressed while on your journey, please let me know!

Chain of Rocks Bridge on Jan 16, 2013 at 4:28:09 am [Print]
Just a reminder to an earlier update about the MO side of the chain of Rocks bridge. DON"T park on the MO side! Your car may get broken into.

The Illinois side is usually safer. Its at the end of a couple mile dead end section, with only one way in or out...this deprives the crooks of a quick getaway. Still, please be careful even here. (and in the whole area on both side of the river in St Louis and surrounding cities).

Had some visitors first week of May 2013 who also had their car broken into on the MO side. DO NOT PARK THERE!

A NEW bridge is being built to carry I-70 across the Mississippi (along with new approaches and revised surface streets and exits. This will be just north of downtown ( north of the MLK bridge).

see http://www.newriverbridge.org/ for info.

The new bridg should be open to traffic in 2014.

Expect detours, delays and lots of changes to the maps!!!!!

Whoops! Finally discovered that they don't actually post I-444 signs on the short stretch of freeway that runs along the south side of downtown Tulsa! Its just some sort of administrational designation. So when the directions or map says I-444, replace with US 75 and 64!

There is now a ROUNDABOUT at the intersection of 11th, Elgin and 10th in TULSA.

Just curve around from 11th onto 10th (or from 10th onto 11th).

Or go around in circles for hours.:-)

AZ page-16 BIKE TOURS on Oct 04, 2012 at 4:41:38 pm [Print]
The bike trail sign at Welch Rd is missing. Due to this (and to get latest regulations) I advise checking at the Williams Ranger District at 742 S Clover in Williams (928) 635-5600 before attempting either trail.

Do NOT attempt access from Monte Carlo Rd EXIT 149.

I found listings for bike rentals in Flagstaff, but (oddly) none in Williams.

ANYWHERE is says "89A" on these two pages, substitute the highway designation US 180.

The Auto -Tour sign west of Bellemont is GONE. Damn vandals. A few are still left..but I expect them to go missing someday.

Update: I witnessed this sign as GONE in August. Got a report in October that it was back up...but that ANOTHER was missing.

Expect to be suprised.

Due to vandalsm, the display about the constable killed by Bonnie and Clyde in Commerce had to be removed.
