At least i got it right on his gallery name: Lile Art Gallery!
Great place to stop and buy art...but buy art at MY gallery first, willya? LOL

Good news! After the passing of Gary Turner last year, his famous Gay Parita Sinclair Station has sat vacant. But now his daughter Barb has moved there, and is reopening Gary's legacy to visitors!
I talked with her on the phone today, and even though they are still busy unpacking and reorganizing, she has been opening the gate for visitors.
UPDATE: They are up and running and a great place to stop and visit!
Gary built a unique stop alongside 66, and it looks like his vision will keep going.
RV ALERT: LOW CLEARANCE ISSUES on
Jan 14, 2016 at 6:03:39 pm

This entry only applies to tall vehicles (RVs and Trucks)
A reader asked me about clearance issue with his 14 FOOT TALL trailer.
Since I have been gathering more data on RV issues, I decided now was the time to investigate.
Here are the results of a quick check of suspected clearance issues.
NOTE: One would assume that most interstate hwy era structures are OK. But some underpasses that carry the road under the interstate may be under 14 foot clearance (as in Lupton, AZ)! I cannot check every underpass.
This is just a partial list of possible issues. You may encounter low clearance at other places. USE THIS INFO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Il page-3: There appears to be no clearance markings on the elevated tracks that cross Adams and Jackson. They look pretty low. It would not be advisable to tow a long trailer or drive a big RV thru downtown anyway.
IL page-5: There are many railroad underpasses on Ogden Ave. Many are unmarked. The ones at Ogden and Campbell are about 13"0' to 13'6".
IL page-6 North of Joliet: Hwy 53/Broadway: Railroad underpass 13'7" WB, 13' 6" EB. Use I-55 to US 80 (see map)
IL page-14: Bloomington IL...There is no clearance sign on a railroad underpass north of downtown.
IL page-19: Springfield Illinois...On the BL 55 (5th and 6th street one way couplet) south side of town: RR underpass: 5th St (WB traffic) 14'0"...6th St (EB traffic) 13'7" clearance.
The RR underpass on BL 55 (N 9th) on the north side of Springfield is currently unmarked, but looks short.
IL page 24: RR underpass south of Mt Olive is 13'7". Join I-55 at EXIT 44 to EXIT 41
MO page 15 The Devils Elbow bridge is 13' 8". If overheight, stay on 4 lane 66 thru here.
MO page-23: The bridge at Spencer is not marked as to height. Stay on MO 96 if in doubt.
OK page-22: Lake Overholser Bridge is 12'4" clearance and 10 tons limit. Stay on OK 66 to Yukon if over.
NM page-12: Albuquerque. The railroad underpass east side of downtown is only 13'11".
NM page 17: The RV Alert tunnel has only a 13'6" clearance. Stay on I-40 from exit 96 to Exit 89.
NM page 22:, the clearance for the RV alert is 13' 6".
NM page 28: Algodones NM (the pre 1937 route between Santa Fe and Albuquerque): RR underpass... 13 feet, one inch. Stay on I-25 in this section.
AZ page-3: the clearance for the underpass at exit 359 is under 14 foot. You'll have to join I-40 to continue west if overheight.
AZ page-13: Flagstaff. The railroad underpass west of downtown is 13"9"
CA page-21 Arcadia: the Railroad overpass on Colorado west of Santa Anita Ave is not marked.
I will add further low clearance issues to these updates as I become aware of them. Please remember that the EZ 66 Guide was created primarily with regular motor vehicles in mind, and that NOT EVERY LARGE RV RELATED ISSUE IS CURRENTLY COVERED! And check earlier update entries for more RV ALERTS.

I recently got to stay in the Roadrunner Lodge, and the room justified the good reports I had been getting. I am happy I put it in the 4th edition. Everything is clean and bright and comfortable, with big rooms and many neat touches. 1023 E Route 66 Blvd, Tucumcari NM 575 282 7866 www.RoadrunnerLodge.com
Of course, I also managed to stay once again at the historic Blue Swallow Motel, which is still going strong.
We ate at Kix on 66 and also Del's...both were excellent.

Here is a great classic motel to stay in if you overnight in Santa Rosa, New Mexico.
The La Mesa Motel has been remodeled, and the rooms are great. My room was clean and comfy and very affordable. Nice people and great neon as well. I last stayed here about 1983. Nice to see it has made a comeback. It will be added to the EZ Guide next edition.

Dinner at Josephs Bar and Grille, 1775 Rte 66, Santa Rosa was also good. They inherited the "Fat Man" logo sign from the defunct Club Cafe.

Whew! The 4th Edition of the EZ 66 Guide has just come out...and already I have to make a revision due to another change to a troublesome exit number in St Louis!
On the WB directions on MO page-4, the exit number for "12th St/Gravois" is NOW signed as EXIT 290A...!
This exit has a history of changing. Earlier it was EXIT 290C...then just EXIT 290...but with signs showing both numbers!
And now, after I did the revisions for the 4th edition, it has changed again.
So IGNORE EXIT 290C headed westbound. That will dump you now onto 7th St. Look for the exit for "MO 30/12th St/ Gravois" . That is now signed as 290A...but ignore the number...it may change yet again!
BTW...the Historic 66 sign posted after the 7th St exit (290C) and before the 12th St (290A) exit STILL says "EXIT 290C"..!!!!
No wonder my hair gets greyer between editions! Good thing I drove most of 66 between Chandler and Edwardsville last week to recheck.

Here is a report from cyclist Arlen Hall who visited me recently:
The Desert Hills motel (in Tulsa) is classic! Loved loved it. Worth every penny. One bathroom had rt 66 in the tile. Bathrooms are being updated. Yes, classic cig burns on sink but that is what gives it charm. Beds were firm and all clean. Owners are super nice.
I can't speak high enough about Dots Cafe in Claremore. Stew for lunch followed by the best peach cobbler EVER! Her daughter was very knowledgeable with a sense of humor. The locals were fun to talk too.
The Lincoln Motel in chandler was very nice as well.
Thanks, Arlen!

When planning your trip to the Grand Canyon up from Williams, remember that summetime traffic to the Canyon can be very heavy. Recent visitors reported that it took a couple of hours for the approx 60 mile trip.
