EZ UPDATES

For readers of the EZ 66 Guide for Travelers, I have provided free online updates to help keep your Route 66 experience as current as possible. As you might imagine, Route 66 is constantly undergoing changes, some good, others not so. Businesses open and close, roads are re-routed and street names change.

Please check back here just before your trip for the latest info. Entries are dated as to when they were added.

If you wish to purchase your own copy of the EZ Guide, please go here.

EZ 66 readers have been helpful in keeping me keep the guidebook updated in between my own road trips, so if you discover something that needs to be addressed while on your journey, please let me know!

Posted by: Dave on 1 - Apr 12, 2017 at 2:54:29 am The Route 66 Museum in Berwyn appears to be permanently closed. Nothing is inside and a rental space sign is out front.

Also a reminder that the term "frontage road" (or "Outer Road" in MO) refers to a section of road that mostly parallels the interstate highway. Often 66 will come close to the freeway, serve as a frontage road, and then veer away. If you follow the directions you should have no problems.

I want to bump this post up to the top as there has been confusion in the past.

I've gotten a couple of emails about all those funny sets of letters ("FF" "AT" "Z" etc) on the Missouri maps and directions.
Its not a secret code...this is how Missouri designates certain supplementary or secondary roads in their state! So the "ZZ" on a map is "Highway ZZ".
So where you see a letter in a circle on a map, or "Hwy F" (for example) in the directions, just look for those letters on a sign.

I just scrolled thru the updates below, and removed a few that no longer apply. But I am leaving most of the updates prior to the introduction of the 4th edition (November 2015), as they still apply to earlier editions.

This is just a minor set of two fingered typos...but I want to correct what reader Dan pointed out to me today!

Where it says HWY 566 in the WB directions and in the side trip, substitute HWY 556. The map on the right side is correct!

Traffic circle fever strikes again! A new one is being built on the west side of Waynseville at the intersection of County T and Hwy 17 (BL 44).

If you visit Route 66 Trailhead Park, the short bit of original pavement is between the parking lot and the overpass. There is an informative sign there, but the date of paveing given as "1941" is an unfortunate typo...it should be 1914.

BIG alert!

There is a sign depicting a BIG steaming coffee cup in front of the Starbucks on north side of Foothill, just west of Mulberry Ave in UPLAND. NOT the Mulberry Ave futher east in Fontana!

Its only a few feet high, so look close to the edge of the parking lot.

Here are some Shamrock updates from my friend Randy Murphy:

The Blarney Stone in Shamrock has been moved from Elmore Park to the NE corner of 2ND and US-83/Main into its own little “Blarney Stone Plaza.” Picture attached.

2) The Route 66 mural on Route 66 in Shamrock seems to be complete. (This is on the east side of town, along the south side of 66.

3) At the restored Conoco/U-Drop-In a photo of Elvis in a corner booth he sat in has been added.

Reader Tim Weigel advises that the cattleguards on the section of 66 west from Lupton exit to Exit 354 have become very rough, so go slow as you encounter them. Good idea any time you see a cattleguard (a section across the road where steel pipes are laid in a row to prevent cattle from crossing) in the west on any road.
