EZ UPDATES
For readers of the EZ 66 Guide for Travelers, I have provided free online updates to help keep your Route 66 experience as current as possible. As you might imagine, Route 66 is constantly undergoing changes, some good, others not so. Businesses open and close, roads are re-routed and street names change.
Please check back here just before your trip for the latest info. Entries are dated as to when they were added.
If you wish to purchase your own copy of the EZ Guide, please go

EZ 66 readers have been helpful in keeping me keep the guidebook updated in between my own road trips, so if you discover something that needs to be addressed while on your journey, please let me know!

EB (eastbound) there is currently NO Historic 66 sign to alert you to the Allen Rd alignment that will take you to Donaldson Rd and the turkey tracks. Use the detail map. UPDATE 4-22: There still is NO sign...

I think I covered this goof earlier, but here it is again: Eastbound directions: There is NOT a stoplight for the right turn onto Pine street from Linden Street in NORMAL.
Yikes. I think I mistakenly took that from the WB directions.
Anyway, EB turn LEFT at the Linden Street stoplight, go 4 blocks to turn RIGHT onto Pine. There IS (currently) an HISTORIC 66 sign at the corner.
This is why I try to drive 66 as much as possible using my directions...to catch blunders like this.

The route from Exit 63 (Farmersville) south to the N 16th Ave overpass north of Litchfield is still rough. OK for regular cars, but perhaps bikes should hop on I-55 to the Litchfield exit (and RVs,sports cars, etc).
UPDATE 4-22:STILL ROUGH. In fact, most of the frontage road section of 66 from Springfield to Litchfield was rough to some degree. But sadly, many of the roads and streets I drove in Illinois in April 2022 were rough...not just 66.

We enjoyed a great three night stay at the Carlinvilla Motel in Carlinville, Illinois on the 1926-1930 66.
And we had a great meal at the Old Route 66 Family restaurant in Dwight, and at the Ariston in Litchfield.

There's enough going on now in downtown Luther, OK that its worth a mention. Several restaurants including 116 Farmstead, which is a favorite. Also a couple of antique shops (including the Rusty Farm)and a gift shop.
Downtown is reached by turning south on Luther Rd. Cross the tracks and curve right on NE 2nd.

The El Vado Motel is open now. reservations are probably advised. You can't park at your room...but you can at the nearby Monterrey Motel, which is owned by the same people. I've stayed there several times under the old management.
NOTE: PRICEY!

We had another good stay at the Route 66 Motel (the one with the old cars and windmill, etc in the courtyard) in Barstow last month.
UPDATE; Since then, I have heard some credible complaints. It may depend on the room you get. I suggest asking to see a room first.

Just got a report from Don that the Route 66 Museum in the Powerhouse visitor center is no longer open on Sunday. That could change...its hard to keep up with changes in operation at the many museums! I suggest checking ahead by phone or on their websites to avoid disappointment.
