EZ UPDATES
For readers of the EZ 66 Guide for Travelers, I have provided free online updates to help keep your Route 66 experience as current as possible. As you might imagine, Route 66 is constantly undergoing changes, some good, others not so. Businesses open and close, roads are re-routed and street names change.
Please check back here just before your trip for the latest info. Entries are dated as to when they were added.
If you wish to purchase your own copy of the EZ Guide, please go

EZ 66 readers have been helpful in keeping me keep the guidebook updated in between my own road trips, so if you discover something that needs to be addressed while on your journey, please let me know!

Between Wilmington and Braidwood are new STOP signs on 66 at some crossroads. The crossroad traffic in these cases DO NOT STOP.
This is in connection with the transformation of the railroad across much of Illinois 66 to high speed rail. You may encounter temporary closures and detours at crossings.

The Dining and Lodging guide is now OUT OF PRINT! DON'T pay outrageous sums for it on ebay, etc...as it is now out of date.
was a great resource for traveling 66, especially in those locations where there is not a classic motel or cafe to visit. I used it myself.
BUT...i want to be sure everyone knows I did not write it!
Recently visitors have told me of errors. Like the address for the Campbell Hotel in Tulsa is incorrect.
Don't blame me! I make enough goofs of my own!

If you faithfully follow the EZ directions thru Catoosa (after the Blue Whale) you will not miss old 66 thru Tulsa.
However, many people seem to be missing the vital turn onto FORD ST in Catoosa.
If you miss this turn, you'll end up following OK State HWY 66 and I-44 as it bypasses Original 66 thru Tulsa!
To remedy this, merely take EXIT 240 (at the big casino), and turn LEFT onto 193rd St to rejoin the tour route. Or if you miss that, take the 11th Street exit and head west towards downtown.

Got a report that a room at the Route 66 Motel near Afton (OK page-5) had bugs. I'd check the room first.
UPDATE: Just had a group of Canadians who said their rooms at the 66 Motel were OK. Just needed maintenance. They said there were dead flies on window sill.
UPDATE TOO: Just had a GREAT report from visitors who stayed at the Route 66 Motel. They stayed in the "movie Room" and said it had new carpet and decor, and they were pleased. So it appears that some of their rooms are being rennovated.
UPDATE SUMMER 2020: SADLY, I got a bad report about this motel again...with photos. i can't currently recommend it.

Now that Gar Woolys restaurant has closed, it appears that a new place is going in the same bldg....Jimmy’s Route 66 Round-up Café.
UPDATE 2018: Now it is Tammy's Roundup Cafe! Good food.
Also I don't have room in the EZ to mention the colorful murals in downtown (a few blocks off 66). But you'll see them if you take a side trip on Davenports "Brick Broadway."
Thanks, Randy!
